Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by your professional driver-guide. After a short briefing about the trip, you will begin the scenic drive to southwestern Uganda.
The journey takes approximately 8–9 hours but is incredibly rewarding, with changing landscapes along the way. You will make a stop at the Equator crossing for photos and a quick experiment, followed by a lunch stop in Mbarara town. As you continue toward Bwindi, the flat plains give way to rolling hills, terraced farms, and mist-covered valleys often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.”
You will arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the late afternoon or evening. After check-in, you can relax, enjoy dinner, and listen to the sounds of the forest as you prepare for the highlight of your safari the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a pre-trek briefing conducted by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla behavior, trekking guidelines, and safety rules. You will then be assigned to a specific habituated gorilla family and guided by experienced trackers into the forest.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is an adventure through thick vegetation, steep slopes, and winding forest trails. The trek can take 2 to 6 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas. Along the way, you may also spot other forest wildlife, birds, and unique plant species.
When you finally meet the gorilla family, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them at close range. Watching a giant silverback, mothers caring for infants, and playful young gorillas in their natural environment is an emotional and humbling experience that few wildlife encounters can match.
After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you may choose to visit a nearby local community or take a short nature walk to learn more about the culture and daily life of the people living around the forest.
Day 3: Return to Entebbe or Kampala
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and begin your return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. The drive once again offers beautiful views of Uganda’s countryside, with a lunch stop along the way.
You will arrive in the late afternoon or evening, where your guide will drop you off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight.
