2 Days Safari to Murchison Falls

Tour Overview

The 2 Days Safari to Murchison Falls is a short but action-packed wildlife experience to Uganda’s largest and most diverse protected area, Murchison Falls National Park. This safari is ideal for travelers with limited time who still want to enjoy classic game drives, a scenic Nile boat cruise, and a visit to the dramatic Murchison Falls where the Nile explodes through a narrow gorge.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park and Rhino Tracking

The safari begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe, driving northwest toward Murchison Falls National Park. En route, you stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for guided rhino tracking on foot, offering a rare chance to see Uganda’s only wild rhinos up close. After lunch, you continue to the park, enter through the southern gate, and proceed to the top of the falls. Here, you enjoy spectacular views as the Nile forces its way through a 7-meter-wide gorge before plunging into the Devil’s Cauldron. You then transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise

After an early breakfast, you head out for a morning game drive on the northern bank of the park, the best area for wildlife viewing. Expect to see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, and predators such as lions and, with luck, leopards. The drive is followed by lunch before heading for an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile. The cruise takes you upstream toward the base of the falls, offering excellent opportunities to spot hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and a wide variety of bird species along the riverbanks. After the cruise, you begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe, arriving in the evening.

Wildlife and Scenic Highlights

Murchison Falls National Park is renowned for its combination of savannah wildlife, river ecosystems, and dramatic landscapes. The park supports over 70 mammal species and more than 450 bird species, making it suitable for both wildlife lovers and birding enthusiasts. The powerful waterfalls remain the park’s most iconic feature and a highlight of the safari.

Accommodation Options

Accommodation is arranged at lodges located either inside the park or just outside its boundaries. Options range from budget and mid-range lodges to luxury safari camps, all offering comfortable rooms, meals, and relaxing environments after a full day of activities.
