3 Days Chimpanzee Safari in Uganda

Tour Overview

The 3 Days Chimpanzee Safari in Uganda is a rewarding primate adventure that takes you into the heart of tropical rainforest to track one of humanity’s closest relatives. The safari is centered in Kibale Forest National Park, widely regarded as the primate capital of East Africa. With its dense forest, rich biodiversity, and high concentration of chimpanzees, Kibale offers one of the best chimp tracking experiences on the continent.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from Kampala or Entebbe, followed by a scenic drive westward to Kibale Forest National Park. The journey passes through small towns, tea plantations, and rolling countryside, with views of the Rwenzori mountain ranges on clear days. Lunch is taken en route before continuing to the park area. Upon arrival, you check in to your lodge and relax for the evening, preparing for the next day’s chimpanzee tracking adventure.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland Walk

After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You are then guided into the forest in search of a habituated chimpanzee community. The trek can take between one and three hours depending on their location. Once found, you spend one hour observing their behavior—feeding, grooming, playing, and communicating in the forest canopy.

In the afternoon, you visit the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. This community-managed wetland is known for its rich birdlife, monkeys, and cultural interaction with local residents. After the walk, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Crater Lakes Exploration and Return Transfer

On the final day, enjoy breakfast before exploring the scenic crater lakes region around Kibale. The area offers beautiful viewpoints, rolling hills, and photographic opportunities. Afterward, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe with lunch en route, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.
