Day 1: Departure from Rwanda and Arrival in Mgahinga
Your journey begins in Kigali, Rwanda, where our team will pick you up early in the morning. The scenic drive takes you through rolling hills, rural villages, and breathtaking landscapes along the Rwanda-Uganda border. Upon arrival in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you will check into your lodge or tented camp and have a brief orientation about the park and your gorilla trekking adventure. Depending on your arrival time, you may have an opportunity to take a short forest walk, spotting the park’s diverse birdlife and smaller primates. The evening is spent relaxing at your lodge, enjoying local cuisine, and preparing for the next day’s gorilla trek.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. The guides will provide instructions on park rules, safety measures, and tips for observing gorillas without disturbing their natural behavior. The trek itself can last anywhere from 2 to 5 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, so it is important to wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry essentials like water, snacks, and a camera. The reward is worth every step: encountering a family of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, optional activities such as golden monkey tracking or a cultural visit to nearby communities can be arranged, offering a deeper insight into the region’s wildlife and culture.
Day 3: Morning Walk and Return to Rwanda
On your final day, you may opt for an early morning guided nature walk or a scenic hike to view the park’s volcanic features and unique flora. After breakfast, it’s time to check out and begin your journey back to Rwanda. The return drive offers another chance to enjoy the rolling landscapes and rural scenery of the region. You will arrive in Kigali by late afternoon, concluding your 3-day gorilla safari with memories of close encounters with wildlife and the majestic beauty of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
