Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kigali, driving northwest toward the Ruhengeri region. The journey passes scenic hills, tea plantations, and rural villages, with a stop for refreshments along the way. Upon arrival near Volcanoes National Park, you check in to your lodge and spend the afternoon relaxing. Optional activities include a visit to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo or a local community visit. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience
After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a briefing from the Rwanda Development Board rangers. You are then guided into the forest to track your assigned gorilla family. The trek can last anywhere from one to five hours depending on the gorillas’ location and terrain. Once you locate the gorillas, you are allowed one hour to observe and photograph these magnificent creatures as they feed, play, and interact. Return to the lodge in the afternoon for lunch and relaxation.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking or Cultural Activities and Return Transfer
On the final day, you can choose to track golden monkeys, which inhabit the bamboo forests of the park, offering a playful and less strenuous trekking experience. Alternatively, you may visit local communities, cultural sites, or hike to scenic viewpoints. After lunch, you begin the return journey to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or evening, concluding your 3-day gorilla safari.
